Historic Wedding Venue Chelmsford
You will always have unforgettable Weddings at Chelmsford’s Historic Venue ~ Leez Priory, simply because of the grandeur and the fact that it has 800 years of history. Couples often fall in love with Leez priory the moment that park up and walk down the pebbled pathway towards the main building. It’s THE most iconic area in the whole of this wedding venue in Chelmsford.
I’m Chris Woodman Photography, a wedding photographer in Essex and trusted supplier at this wonderful place. I recently finished a walk around film for people either looking to book the venue, OR, have already booked and would like to see how it looks during real world weddings.
You can find my Leez Priory walk around film here: LEEZ PRIORY WALK AROUND TOUR
This Chelmsford wedding venue offers so many different looks for your wedding day. I’ll take you through a few of the spaces available to you so you get an idea of what to expect.
We’ll start with the Granary. This is where the groomsmen often get ready from 11am on the morning of the big day.
THE GRANARY AT THIS WEDDING VENUE CHELMSFORD
Your unforgettable wedding experience in Chelmsford starts here. A secluded space tucked away from the main building to keep the bride and groom separate until the ceremony. It can comfortably hold 6-7 people and offers a luxury feel with it’s dark wood furniture and well thought out decor. Here’s a few examples of the groomsmen getting ready at this historic wedding venue Chelmsford:
Just behind the granary is where you can find THE best light in the whole of this venue. The sun goes down behind the trees and provides a gorgeous warm light during sunset. It’s a favourite place for me to create stunning memories for my couples. A stones throw away from these trees is the well kept lake. I’ve seen the ducks and geese grow up over the years and it provides the perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs. You can now even tie the knot next to the lake. it’s the newest edition for your consideration as to where to have your ceremony.
I have some real world wedding examples to show you from these areas so you can better understand it’s potential at this wedding venue in Chelmsford:
THE FISHERMAN’S COTTAGE AT THIS CHELMSFORD WEDDING VENUE
The fisherman’s cottage offers an array of potential for couples. I’ll often use the front of the building in amongst the flowers to provide a romantic location where you can steal 2 minutes to yourself. Inside is where the bride and her bridesmaids start getting ready until they’re allowed to go upstairs in the main building to finish up. You can stay overnight here, which is a lovely introduction to this charming wedding venue in Chelmsford.
The groomsmen can opt to get ready at the fisherman’s cottage (although this is quite rare from my experience). I have some nice examples to show you from this area at Leez Priory. Check these out and see what you think:
THE TOWER AT THIS LUXURY WEDDING VENUE IN CHELMSFORD
Just outside the cottage, you can take a short stroll across the grass to reveal the Tower. An imposing structure steeped in history and by far the most popular place to get married outside during the warmer months. You can choose inside the tower for your ceremony if you wish. This would be for smaller numbers though and you have to take into consideration the steep and winding stairs that your guests would need to navigate to reach the room.
I’ve worked inside and outside the tower on may occasions and have so many beautiful memories. Here I show you a few from the last few years for your wedding inspiration:
THE CARRIAGE WAY – A ROMANTIC WEDDING LOCATION CHELMSFORD
The carriageway is another favourite spot of mine during a wedding day. It’s versatile and screams Leez Priory with it’s large wooden doors and red brick work inside. You can use this space for drinks and canapés, the cutting of the cake, the first dance and the party. I’ve even shot a ceremony outside of the carriageway. This is yet another location for your consideration.
Once again, I have some examples to show you at this affordable wedding venue Chelmsford:
THE GRAND HALL AT THIS WEDDING VENUE CHELMSFORD
Situated up the stairs next to the carriageway is the grand hall. You can choose to have this area for your ceremony and your reception meal if you wanted everything all in one place. It has that dark wood feel that matches many of the other rooms at Leez Priory. Again, take in consideration the stairs for your elderly guests. This can be a challenge but it’s worth it if everything can safely navigate them. I’d like to show you a few examples from real weddings in the grand hall space here:
THE LIGHT OAK ROOM – BEST WEDDING VENUE IN CHELMSFORD
The light oak room is actually my favourite room at Leez Priory. I have used this space for so many moments over the years including group shots, couple shots and detail shots. The quality of light coming through the large window is exquisite and the decor really adds to the luxury feel that this unique wedding venue in Chelmsford offers. Many couples also utilise this space for their evening buffet. It gives guests a quiet area to take a break away from the evening party.
These are a few of the memories that I’ve created over the years in the light oak room:
THE BRIDAL SUITE AT THIS HISTORIC WEDDING VENUE CHELMSFORD
The bridal suite is located upstairs in the main building and is accessible from around 11am where the bride and her bridesmaids move across from the fisherman’s cottage. You have 2 rooms to finish getting ready in and can easily hold 7-8 people comfortably. The light can be really nice in these rooms if you know where to look. The images I’ve taken in this bridal suite are pretty amazing due to the decor and simple design. Check out some of my images here for some more inspiration:
THE COACH HOUSE AT THIS WEDDING VENUE CHELMSFORD
The coach house is where we’ll end this tour of Leez Priory. It’s an alternative area to have your sit down meal if you didn’t want the grand hall. It’s situated in the car park upon arrival to this venue so your guests will have a short walk up the pebbled pathway from the main building to reach it. You can also have your ceremony in the coach house. It’s not too common from my experience but it’s lovely none the less. It’s a charming space that is very much in keeping with the history that Leez Priory exudes. It’s a very popular room for sit down meals and speeches.
I have some wonderful memories from the coach house and here are some of the highlights:
So this was my tour and my experiences from this historic wedding venue Chelmsford. I hope you can see the potential that Leez Priory can offer you for your wedding day.
