WEDDINGS AT FANHAMS HALL

Weddings at Fanhams Hall in Hertfordshire will literally take your breath away. The variety will astound you and offer a surprise around every corner. The first thing you’ll notice as you drive up the long winding path is the beauty and grandeur of this Jacobean mansion. I’m Chris Woodman, a Fanhams Hall wedding photographer based in Essex and love going back to this wonderful wedding venue to shoot weddings.

Sophie and Dean booked my services after discovering my work online and enjoyed the way I crafted a relaxed photography experience. Thy married this year in May and were lucky enough to have a sun soaked wedding day that really showcased what Fanhams Hall has to offer it’s couples.

My first port of call was to start with the groom prep in the medieval hall with it’s high ceilings and stunning decor fit for a King and Queen. This was also the room that my couple were to tie the knot later in the day.

Sophie got ready in the bridal suite (complete with a huge bay window overlooking the beautiful grounds). She had her nearest and dearest with her to help her get ready. The wedding dress she chose suited her perfectly. The detail and simplicity was on point and very much in keeping with the vibe of her surroundings. I had all the ingredients I needed to ensure that my Fanhams Hall wedding photography felt luxurious and timeless.

CEREMONIES AT FANHAMS HALL

There are a couple of choices available to you if you choose Fanhams Hall to marry. You can have the Medieval Hall as featured today, or you could opt for the outdoor experience in the Japanese Gardens. Sophie and Dean fell in love with the long Hall and high ceilings inside the Jacobean Mansion and were all set to get the official proceedings underway.

It’s a long walk down the aisle, which is great for a wedding photographer. You could see that they were both understandably nervous but all smiles once Sophie had reached the altar. We had some tears during the ceremony to round off what was a stunning service that went along without a hitch.

The staff at Fanhams Hall had informed us that due to another wedding go on later in the day outside, we had to make use of the Japanese gardens straight after the ceremony so that we didn’t cross paths with the other bride and groom. We were taken over in a golf buggy to what is one of the highlights of the whole wedding venue to capture the love that Sophie and Dean clearly had for one another.

There are a couple of famous spots for wedding photography at Fanhams Hall once you arrive to the impressive Japanese gardens. One of them is the green bridge surrounded by lush greenery and colourful fauna.

There’s a beautiful walk you can take in a carefully constructed area for hanging plants and we made good use of this to capture something classic and timeless for the couple.

Once we had finished with the Japanese gardens at Fanhams Hall, we were free to use the rest of the wedding venue as we pleased. There are so many areas that you could use but you simply don’t have time to fit them all in. Below are just some of the areas that we opted for and the couple absolutely loved the results.

We finally got the couple back to their wedding guests who were enjoying drinks and canapes in the grounds. At this point, I’ll drift off into the background and go fully documentary so you hardly know I’m there.

It’s a great way to see real personalities of people and make the whole experience authentic and natural.

Wedding receptions at Fanhams Hall are another thing of beauty if you’re lucky enough to secure this wedding venue. I had time to photograph the details while the guests enjoyed the sun outside. Again we see the high ceilings and dark wood that give Fanhams it’s character. The reception room is quite long and narrow with the addition of string lights that make this space welcoming and fitting for the evening festivities.

Once the details were captured, it was right about time for the confetti shot. We created two long lines close to where the reception was to take place. There was a snow storm of confetti that engulfed Sophie and Dean.

As you can imagine, the wedding photography at Fanhams Hall just kept getting better and better as the day went on. The speeches looked amazing with the way the room was designed. There’s a balcony that you can reach to get an overall look of the layout. I utilised this during the speeches to offer variety in my coverage and it worked really well.

After going back out to the grounds for more drinks while the staff at Fanhams Hall turned around the room, we were all set for the evening events. We moved the cake out on to the dancefloor for a better photograph where the guests were more involved.

It was helpful because once the cake cut had been completed, we simply moved it out of the way for the first dance to take place. It looked incredible amongst the castle like decor as a backdrop.

We just had the party to follow to end a thoroughly enjoyable experience at Fanhams Hall.
